- Both spots stand by the Waldsee in Berlin-Hermsdorf, where the Bezirksamt Reinickendorf's project 'Neubau Spielplatz am Waldsee' was completed in mid-September 2023; it also renewed the footpath around the lake and placed smaller fitness devices around it. The district's project sheet gives 632,000 euros for the playground plus a further 500,000 euros for the park, financed from the KSSP (Kita- und Spielplatzsanierungsprogramm) and the Stadtverschönerungsprogramm. - The Waldsee in Berlin-Hermsdorf covers 2.5 hectares; formed during the ice age, it was formerly called the Sandsee. The Hermsdorfer Boden-Aktiengesellschaft, which acquired the land in 1906, enlarged and deepened the lake and planted its shore with rare trees while developing the surrounding residential area, and in 2016 and 2017 the lake was desludged of sediment layers up to about 2.5 metres thick to stop it tipping ecologically. - The new facilities at the Waldsee were opened on 22 September 2023 by Bezirksbürgermeisterin Emine Demirbüken-Wegner together with Bezirksstadträtin Julia Schrod-Thiel and Jana Klaetke, deputy mayor of the neighbouring municipality of Glienicke. Besides the fitness devices in the park, the playground has swings, climbing structures, slides, a table-tennis table, sandpits and a large viewing tower with a view over the lake. - The 350 m street Am Waldpark in Berlin-Hermsdorf was given its present name on 16 May 1938, after the park around the Waldsee. It was previously called Lessingstraße, after the landowner Leopold Lessing, who had a brine spring drilled and intended to develop Hermsdorf into a spa town. (Source: de.wikipedia.org)
