Like the neighbouring Pionierpark it is an interim use within the Parkstadt Süd project, and the city states that the installed sports equipment will later be re-used in the Inner Green Belt. - Construction of the roughly 29,000 square metre Sportpionierpark began with a groundbreaking ceremony on 17 June 2024, converting the former freight-yard site in the area of Bonner Straße in Köln-Bayenthal into new parkland.
