- According to German Wikipedia the lake is a former gravel pit: excavation began around 1965 near the boundary with Breitenlee, groundwater was soon reached and a pond formed. By the mid-1970s the pit had reached its greatest extent, bounded by Spargelfeldstraße, Bibernellweg, Ziegelhofstraße and an adjoining sports ground, with the maximum depth put at about 10 metres.
